AN INVITATION TO CHRISTIAN ILLUSTRATORS
Help the story
be seen.
A drawing can hold our attention before a word is read. A face, a landscape, a small gesture of love can open a window into the beauty, goodness and truth of God’s unfolding Story.
DAWN brings narrative, music and visual art into conversation. We invite Christian illustrators who share this vision to introduce their work and explore what we might create together.
We are especially interested in hand-drawn illustrations: work shaped by an artist’s observation, imagination and craft, giving each story its own visual voice.
SHARE YOUR WORK
A picture that
opens a window.
Do you have original artwork that might belong alongside the stories on this website? Send a portfolio link or a few examples, with a short note about the work and the story behind it.
Selected images may be featured on the DAWN site by agreement, with the illustrator’s name, an artwork credit and a link to their portfolio where appropriate.
CREATE WITH US
Give a chapter
its visual voice.
We are also seeking illustrators interested in collaborating with Vidar on original, hand-drawn illustrations to accompany the chapters of DAWN’s books, beginning with A Song for the Generations and looking toward The Book of Towers.
We hope for images that deepen the reader’s encounter with a story—its humanity, its questions and its hope—while remaining rooted in biblical beauty, goodness and truth.
THE FIRST BOOK · A SONG FOR THE GENERATIONS
One cover.
Sixteen chapters.
Seventeen windows into the story.
A Song for the Generations contains sixteen chapters. Alongside the book’s cover illustration, we envision an original, hand-drawn illustration to open each chapter—sixteen images that capture the particular theme, human encounter or hope at the heart of its story.
This is an invitation to help shape the reader’s journey. An artist might explore a single chapter or a group of chapters, working with Vidar to find an image that belongs to the narrative and sits beautifully within the book.
We also hope these books will introduce readers to the artists behind the images. Participating illustrators will be named and credited alongside their work, with an artist introduction and portfolio reference where agreed. As the book series develops, these collaborations can become a meeting place for Christian artists and readers drawn toward beauty, goodness and truth.
LOOKING AHEAD · THE NAME OF HIS FACE
Three paintings.
One unfolding encounter.
Alongside the chapter illustrations for our first book, we welcome conversations with artists interested in three paintings for The Name of His Face—a book and six-song narrated musical in our second development season, July 2027–June 2028.
The three windows follow the Maker who gives life, the face of redeeming love at the Cross and Resurrection, and the promise that His people will see His face. Together, they invite us to encounter the character and love of God.
On our Projects page, three empty frames hold Scripture and an invitation to imagine. Expand the artist guidance there to explore each scene and its biblical foundations. The frames leave room for your interpretation, composition, and craft.
Our immediate development and fundraising priority remains A Song for the Generations. These conversations help us prepare thoughtfully for the work to follow.
PERMISSION · COMPENSATION · SHARED USE
A thoughtful agreement.
For each work.
Artwork for the website
Artwork contributed for use on the DAWN website is generally shared without compensation, unless a different arrangement is negotiated. Artists retain ownership and the right to use their work elsewhere. Any website use will be agreed upon with the artist, with clear credit and a portfolio link where appropriate.
Illustrations for the books
Book illustrations are considered case by case, book by book and project by project. Depending on the work and the collaboration, we may agree on an upfront commission or fee for creating an illustration or for permission to use an existing image.
Shared use is also open for discussion. An illustration might appear both on the website and in a book if the artist agrees; permission for one does not automatically include the other. Whether the artist may also use or license the same image elsewhere will be discussed and agreed for that particular project.
Our hope is to find arrangements that serve the story while honoring the artist’s craft, time and future opportunities. Before work begins or an image is published, we will put the agreed uses, credit, compensation and any exclusivity in writing.
